Youtube had a major redesign, their biggest yet, along with Google also offering a larger variety of customisation and consistency throughout YouTube and Google.
The redesigned video site displays a news feed in the centre of the homepage featuring videos that an individual’s friends have uploaded.
There is a channel feed on the left hand side of screen encouraging users to ‘subscribe’ to their favourite YouTube channels and shows – this will make it easier to add new subscriptions.
And there are big Facebook and Google+ ‘buttons’ also in the left hand column so users can easily share content from YouTube through their choice of social network.
On the right hand side is a ‘Recommendations’ feed, this has improved as recommendations than when they were in a timeline and were mixed with user uploads. These suggest videos that users may like based on their current subscriptions and video-watching history, the recommendations list is a big improvement as all of your recommendations are in one place.
Customisation is better, you can choose what style of channel yours is, such as blogger, creator, broadcaster and everything. This enables you to give your channel more of a personal touch and lets you have it how you want it rather than the old design with a channel comment and videos to the right, a difference in profiles is needed.
The overall feel of the new YouTube is its fresh and new and no doubt that people will complain, but in my opinion its great and easy to find everything.
