The iPad – A Post PC Device

This Christmas, I got an iPad, so I thought that I would give you my thoughts on it and offer some tips if you already have one.

People say the iPad is just a big iPod touch, whilst this is true, it does come with a lot more functionality than Apple’s top of the range music player. It has dedicated apps that are made for the 9.7″ touch screen, like Pages, Numbers and Keynote. These are made by Apple and are part of the iWork family of Apple apps. This means that you can do everything you would do on a normal computer (running Windows or OS X) on the iPad. This means you can create: music, presentations, text documents and spreadsheets on a thin, portable, affordable device.

I am writing this post on my iPad and I think that the keyboard is very good and you could easily get used to typing on it. The iPad has a great web browser with built in tabbed browsing, just like on a desktop PC. The point I am trying to make is that if you are just using your computer for basic tasks like web browsing, mail and office software, then the iPad can replace it.

If you are not sure whether the iPad is for you, visit an Apple store and try one out. They have them on show, you don’t even need to ask and they usually have the iWork apps pre-installed so you can see if it will work for you.

The iPad also supports printing to printers that support Apple’s AirPrint. The iPad is called a post-pc device because you no longer need a computer to use it.

Check out this device, it might just be for you!
